The World

Economy

Money in Starfire is small at the bottom and heavy at the top. A new character counts copper; a veteran deals in gold.

Wealth scales with what you can survive

What a creature carries and what it drops are both banded on its level, so the early game genuinely deals in copper and silver while the top of it sees gold. Prices were set on the same curve, which means a purse that felt meaningful at level five still reads as small later - as it should.

Shops have a purse of their own

A merchant buys with money they actually have and sells at a markup. That single fact is what stops the economy being a faucet: you cannot sell an unlimited amount of junk into a vendor who has run out of coin, and what you sell has to be worth their while.

The shop comes to you

Trade caravans walk authored routes across the world, stopping to trade along the way. A caravan carries goods banded by its own rarity on top of whatever its merchant already stocks, so catching a good one on the road is worth doing. Nothing may start a fight with a caravan merchant, which makes them safe to deal with - though it does not make them immortal.

Where money goes

Buying, repairing and healing are the main sinks, alongside the ordinary cost of replacing what you lose. Equipment wears with use in worlds that turn durability on, and repairing a good weapon is usually cheaper than replacing it.
